Yes, the patches were for 4.2, because SOCKSification became (even) easier
with the changes that brought. But you only need to use 4.2 to make
building your _client_ easier: the resulting client will then work quite
happily with your existing (4.1) installed sockd SOCKS server.
If you do want to work with 4.1, then I seem to remember that Ying Da
Lee includes a file called (something like) `how_to_socksify' with the
SOCKS distribution..
(I think the posting you quoted was actually from the SOCKS list, rather
than Firewalls!)
