As has been mentioned, swatch is probably your best bet for monitoring system
logs, although its pager interface leaves a bit to be desired.

I have written a sendmail delivery agent which supports email
to alpha & digital pagers (digital pagers can only get numerics of course).

pagermail also lends itself well to simple cron scripts that can be dropped
in here and there and pipe their output to "mail user @
 pager".

If there is sufficient interest I'll see about getting it released.
