In response to E.R. Duperret's request for input ---
At the risk of starting another thread about firewalls and
internet security, you should get that book. Authors are William
R. Cheswick and Steven M. Bellovin, both of AT&T. Publisher is
Addison-Wesley (800-824-7799). Now I know what I want to do, and
even have some inkling of how to do it. What I don't know is how
to do it in a way that doesn't require an enormous initial effort
on my part, along with continued maintenance. It seems to me
that unless you are a very large corporation/institution you're
not going to have the resources to devote to
writing/installing/debugging/maintaining a firewall, nor do you
have gobs of $$ to spend on buying one. What I'd like to see is
something relatively inexpensive (10K or less) that will run on a
pc (dos or sco unix) and that you just load and configure.
Anybody got one?
