# All the sites I've worked at have used digital PBX phone systems,
# which will not work with a normal analog modem. Users have to specifically
# request an analog line so it is very easy to control.

A certain company here in the Silicon Valley thought that, too. Then
they discovered (during a series of very destructive breakins by a
disgruntled former employee) that the engineers, because it was so
difficult to get a "legitimate" analog line, were in the habit of
unplugging the phone line from the nearest fax machine every evening
and plugging it in to a modem on their workstation.
