I may be wrong, but I have a feeling that the majority of folks would
end up subscribing to both lists.  I know I would.

As a member of www-security, as soon as I discovered www-buyinfo, I
subscribed to it, but have since started receiving duplicate messages
as a result of cross-postings to both, which make up a large chunk
of the traffic, from what I've seen.  (Maybe I'm being too sensitive. :)

If you're concerned with bandwidth waste, figure out a good way for
handling the 'subscribe' and 'Please unsubscribe me!!' messages which
arrive here as a result of either ignorance or misinformation.  ;)
