True this would probably make it difficult to boot directly from a CD-ROM
but as I recall, they have a bootable floppy drive also. I *suspect* that it
would not be difficult to create a "bootable" floppy that just contained
enough software to load a conventional CD-ROM software driver and then to
transfer the boot process to the CD. This would be somewhat simpler than
trying to come up with a special purpose CD-Rom drive.
