I normally monitor this list from the digest, but have an open
question to anyone with experience on the subject firewalls
(i.e. users, not vendors!)

I have been asked by a company I consult to, about firewalls,
specifically the subject products, and need to know if anyone
is aware of any problems installing, difficulties, and in
general value/knock-offs of one vs. another. My client is
looking into standard I-net services/access from multiple
points, so e-mail, www, telnet services are at interest.

Also understand Sidewinder has E-mail scanning capability. Any
experience? I envision files being passed which are UNIX "tar"
piped to "compress" piped to "btoa" and then mailed. Can the
companies who provide E-mail scanning detect "binaries"
particularly when they are encrypted into what would appear to
be an ASCII file?
(Many UNIX types call this form rite of passage "Tarmail").

I've read Lots of vendor "We can do anything" hype........
My thanks to anyone who can shed some light.

Ed.
