  Let's assume that you have one of IPsec, Kerberos, SSL, and that
the firewall is either willing to trust your host, a PCMCIA card 
plugged into your host (and wired to your spine so you do not
leave it at your desk??) etc.. 
  You might then have transparency (my definition (b)) and 
authentication. This is why I listed two definitions...
