I'm in the process of defining a Remote Acces Facility for our site, based
on some Remote Access box (like Shiva, Cisco, Xylogics or something) and I'm very
concerned about the security of such an environment...
The purpose is to have some of our employees access our network (a packet
switched backbone with routers around it),through dial-in, from their notebooks
(Windows with TCP Stack) at remote locations. Protocols to be supported are IP, IPX
and Netbeui.
Besides an authentication server (with Tacacs, Radius or Annex), we are
considering the use of a Firewall product to protect our network from outsiders. I
understand that this should be a special kind of Firewall, different from a typical
Internet one, because we are willing to accept calls from outside our network, not
to block them; the only concern is to avoid unauthorized access.
Has someone already faced such a challenge? I'd be glad to receive whatever
comments you have on this topic.
Thanks in advance,
