Linux has 'firewalling' (i.e. packet filtering) code within the kernel.
You need to include it as a configuration option when building a new
kernel.

Is it good? I would say adequate. There are some deficiencies and
commercial products are obviously much better, but it can (and does)
fit into many (usually small) environments that only need
packet filtering capabilities.
