Although, I'm a Linux fan, and will endlessly testify to its stability,
security and maintainability if given the chance, I won't, coz my
flame-retardant suit is in the wash :-)
To get an idea of performance comparisons though, I recommend you look at:
http://www.silkroad.com/linux-bm.html
which has a list of BYTE UNIX benchmarks for various linux machines, and
also for Sparc ones. I suggest you look at the Sun Sparc 10, 50Mhz 128Mb RAM
(Duel CPU) entries. That machine scored 8.1. Pentium 75's have scored much
higher amounts. However, I have to ask why you are comparing machines that I
believe are vastly different in price? i.e. why only a P75? I'm sure you
have your reasons, or my idea of Sun's prices is unrepresentative. However,
you will see that higher spec PC's slaughter the Sun benchmarks unequivocably.
Draw your own conclusions anyway.

P.S. The latest stable kernel is 1.2.13. If you are only using 1.2.3 it may
be worth upgrading to a new distribution (with ELF), before starting
anything major - assuming you do :-)
