Someplace I heard rumor that Cisco was leading a group of router vendors in
a cross-brand VPN standards setting effort.  (I hope. Oh please let it be
true!)  

If they bother doing that why not VPN based router management?

I hear they already have marginal encryption for OSPF area passwords plus
TACACS+, so they already heard the work "security".  They deserve praise for
at least trying and someday they'll even have it right.
