CIFS looks to be purely a marketing move by M$ to try to push SMB again
as a "standard" protocol. Unfortunately, M$ has no experience nor
inclination to produce secure products and SMB itself is neither
very secure, nor very efficient when used over TCP.
I think M$ is just trying to counter Sun's Public NFS announcement and
will not really push this unless they see significant interest. One
thing to remember, though; this is the same protocol all the M$ products
use, so you will be opening up ALL your PC's (esp. NT and Win95) to attack.
