Firewalls/encrypted links will evolve to recognize and filter encrypted
packet traffic 'signatures'.
Most businesses will replace private WAN lines with encrypted VPNs in the
next few years. Long Distance carriers will need to push internet
services/VPNs to replace lost private lines.
Internet/Network security will become a very large occupational field.
Many, many holes are presently open. Bank and Commerce web spoofing/
interception have not yet become widely exploited.
Government(s) will attempt to make Authentication a Government topic for
control (anti-spoofing = anti-fraud).
Consumers on the internet will have to obtain an authentication certificate
for internet commerce. Vendors on the web will have to obtain authentication
certificate/commerce licenses.* :(
Corporate/International espionage AI applications which use public internet
search engines will become common. Common use; find products under development
at compeditors, and development people by searching USENET and archives
for technical topics of discussion. Ref: http://www.edo.com/inc/incinfo.html

Anti-EMP(Tempest protection/signal radiation) will become a feature in future
computers/network devices, as the perceived HERF/Van Eck monitor snooping
threat increases.
Credit cards will turn into smart cards, which will turn into electronic
ID bracelets, which will turn into 'Norplant-like' wrist or palm
authentication implants (no wallet needed for driving, purchasing, ATM
withdrawls). Acceptance will accelerate as the older privacy-concerned

to replace the username field, and fast auto screen-blanking.
*Ref: Bible - Revelations something:something "...mark of the beast...
on the right hand or forehead...no one is allowed to...conduct
business, buy goods, get a job without it...'don't leave home
without it'...number is 666..." Previous refered to as the SSN, at
first which many people resisted having assigned to them... However
everyone knows the number of the SSN is 3-2-4, not 6-6-6. 666 is more
like a checksum, where IP is what, three octet, or 888? ;)
