Reuters services are conflicting (ports number 256-259) with the
management services used by Firewall-1 from Checkpoint. We enquired to
both companies in order to find a solution to that problem. The only
solution seems to be a special compilation of the fw-1 software, with
all the risks associated to this. It means that their is no easy way to
change the ports number used by any of those services.

This information is usefull for people intending to secure Reuters
services through firewall-1 from checkpoint.

Consequences
Anybody using or evaluating fw-1 in order to secure the reuters services
will face the some situation as we do.

What are the Reuters services
Those services allow you to receive in real time press news, financial
news, information about major financial places. Banks and financial
institutions use a lot those services, as well as press people.

How do reuters services work
The reuters 3000 session server, is a unix implementation that is
installed at a customer site. This server received information through
the reuters network, which is a TCP/IP implementation. Your workstation
will interact with that server through your local network.

How to secure theh service
This service has to pass through a firewall in order to secure the
customer site (ref. reuters).
