Extremely simple. I did a study on this about 4 years ago looking at 
satellite downlinks and withthe beam spread, you can copy the 
downlink of a bird just about anywhere in the US. Actual price for 
equipment to do this was approximately $2,000. Same thing with 
Microwave. You can sit within a certain distance and just capture the 
radiated signal.
