Well, each implementation is bound to be somewhat different, but you
can inspect at least one implementation yourself by downloading the
patch to the fwtk's http-gw that filters Java and, I think, ActiveX.
(I don't recall where you can get this from, but it's been mentioned on
this list multiple times.)  Note that this is *not* TIS's code and
therefore has no relationship to their Gauntlet Java/ActiveX filter
implementation.
