Perhaps the denizens of this list could assist with settling an argument?
I have been having a full and frank discussion about the correct definition of
the three main types of Firewall will a colleague. We generally agree on packet
filter, but we can't agree on the correct definitive definitions for circuit
relay and application proxy.
My colleague sticks rigidly to Cheswick and Bellovin, while I tend to go more
with the Firewalls FAQ view of things.
The problem is that application proxies are more and more starting to look to
the casual observer like circuit relays.
I don't mean to start a flame war, but other views would be appreciated.
