If I remember correctly, it either transports you from the cave below
the grating to the treasure room in the house, or it takes you from one
side of the mirror to the other.

What I can say for certain, walking around saying xyzzy all over the
place is a big security risk, it calls the thief in constantly to stab
you and steal your stash.
