After reading joining list for a week, I have a comment.

First of all, I expected this list to be much more technical
than it is. Most of the answers to questions have the
flavor 'buy this firewall' or 'see that firewall', which
dilutes the content dramatically.

Is there a security discussion group than focuses on technical
issues and has a much higher signal to noise ratio? If so,
please let me know. This forum has some good context, but
diluting the context dramatically are the constant references
to vendor products.

One example this week, someone asked how to build a simple
filter. Instead of a technical answer, the reply was...
'see the XYZ product'. It this what IP network security
has become, the 'GUI-ization' and sugar coating of firewalls
with vendor products?

It appears so, at least by my short visit here.

Regards....

Tim
