My final message on Blocking Pointcast....
I finally have solved the blocking issue and am posting the filter
necessary to block Pointcast requests. After much research, it appears
that the only unique feature to Pointcast services is a string "FIDO"
that appears after the server name or IP
Many have made the statement that only certain servers or ranges of
servers offer up PointCast services, however since PointCast offers up a
server product, I am certain that this range will be ever changing and
growing, therefor I want to filter on something generic enough to get
*all* Pointcast traffic - regardless of site location or provider....
Generic Filter:
http://*/FIDO*
If you are using Netscape Proxy server, version 2.0 or 2.5, do the
following:
Go to Filters and URL Filter Access Restriction.
Create a new filter (you can call it PCN or FIDO) and set the
content of the filter to be:
http://.*/\FIDO.*
(Yes it looks weird, but it works).
Then set URL Filters to Deny to be this filter....
Credit to Philip Yzarn de Louraille who helped with his examples of
filtering via Netscape Proxy (boy those \ and . are weird....)
