Yes, agreed.  The little personal flame war and the apology flame
war that followed was not something that belonged here.  Nor does
industry gossip; save that for the trade mags!

I can live with some of the slightly off topic stuff, but would
prefer to keep as little of that as possible.  Hopefully it
would also keep away marketing spammers.
