The jury is out. The Old Guard laugh at NT, and other people think
it's good enough. The security question is probably more of an issue
of the administration staff's domain of expertise, but one can
quantitatively demonstrate that good Unix implementations (like
FreeBSD) have both better performance, and significantly more
stability.
(Yahoo!, for example, uses FreeBSD quite a bit. In v1n1 of FreeBSD
News, David Filo relates how he's seen more than 180 days of uptime
(that's without a reboot) on machines serving more than 4 million HTTP
requests per day. I doubt that anyone has ever seen that uptime on NT,
much less when it's doing anything useful.)
