You can detect if someone connects to AOL if they are not dialing out (i.e.
their using the LAN option). And in that case AOL connections can be
blocked. But the only way I know to detect whether or not modems are
connected to internal phone lines is to war-dial all of the phones in your
phone number space. It isn't the most accurate way to tell but it is better
than nothing.
