By Vax do you mean VMS? If I remember rightly (it's been a long time), VMS
actually writes zero bytes over a file when it is deleted. Before this was
implemented it used to be possible to "fish" files back out of the filesystem.
So I expect there is no un-delete facility, unless the zero-write behaviour
is an option which can be turned off.
