Lots of good points, with a few exceptions

I think that it depends upon the medium to large corporation. however,
you've hit the nail right there. MANY medium to large corporations
want what you have stated. however

	* not all of them do. I know people in the area (cambridge MA) who
work for large corporations that use linux.

	* medium to large corporations aren't the only non-home computer
	  users. what of:

		- university
		- k-12 schools
		- non profit
		- small business

In those realms you see a lot less reliance on the corporate
approved standards (whatever those mean). Like anything else, F500
corps have a very long lead time from introduction of technology to
	actually using/allowing its use.

	* equally important is what i think is erroneous wording in your
article. you replied to me and mentioned "your manager...upper management"
I'm sure that this is true for many managers and many companies upper
management, but, it certainly isn't true for myself, nor any of
the sites at which i work.
