One of my favorites is Computer Networks, 2nd edition by I think it is
tannenbaum, but I may have to be corrected on that, I don't have a copy of
it with me right now.  It gives a really thorough coverage of network
protocols and network layers, from the actual wiring on up to applications.
Get it and get crazy.
