Subject: setting up a bastion host on a linux system

I need to set up a bastion host as a part of a firewall and was planning on using
Linux. I understand that such a system should be stripped of all unneccasary software
including alot of the networking stuff thru tweaking of configuration files, boot scripts
and deletion of many binaries in order to make it as safe as possible.

I was wondering if anyone out there has already been down this road with Linux and
had written up a set of step by step instructions for one of the distributions
and could pass them on.

I have CD's for Caldera, Redhat 4.2 and Debian 1.3.1 but have so far only set up Caldera.
Would be willing to give any of the others a crack with some sort of
guidance/reccomendations.

Thanks
