The "most significant potential threats to corporate security" are
more likely to come from within a business or organization than from
outside, according to Pinkerton's 5th Annual survey: "Top Security Threats
Facing Corporate America." Of the top ten most important security threats
identified by security directors of Fortune 1000 companies, the first six
are employee-related concerns:

3. Fraud & White-collar Crime
4. Employee Selection
5. Hardware & Software Theft
6. Ethical Business Conduct
7. Crisis Management & Executive Protection
8. Internet Security
9. Intellectual Property Protection

"The traditional `fortress' mentality that once emphasized
protection against third-party property crime, terrorism and external
threats to personnel appears to be giving way to the realization that
internal security issues are more pervasive," said Frank Johns, managing
director of Pinkerton Global Intelligence Services.
Corporate security directors are increasingly responding to these
issues by integrating enhanced pre-employment safeguards and employee
procedures, such as background checks, personal integrity testing, and
controlling access to information and property, Johns said.
