Auto replys

I have question in reguard how mailing list should or do handle 
reply/returned mail.

We are changing our domain and I would like to set up a autoreply for the 
old domain.  I do not want to flood mail-list that many of my users are on 
with useless mail.

Is there "proper" way to handle this?
