A heads-up to list admins:

I just discovered that reference.com (http://www.reference.com) is archiving
several of my mailing lists without my permission. Here's the catch: they
aren't doing it by subscribing to the lists themselves, but by archiving
newsgroups that are getting the lists through a mail-to-news gateway. I was
aware of the gateway but wasn't aware that it was propagating the groups
outside of the organization that set it up.

I don't really blame reference.com for this -- the gateway and the
organization running it are the real source of the problem. But other admins
may want to check reference.com's site for similar "surprises".
