agreed... of course, with our new routers, process level switching has also
improved. :-)  [ugh, that sounds like a blatant plug...]

  I think this comment is a bit misleading. This year's workstations
  are more than equivalent to last year's supercomputers.
  Compressed video transmissions used by several conferences in the
  past few months have caused serious problems for Internet routers.
  
  Note that I'm not quibbling with your choice of where to do 
  options processing, just pointing out that higher performance is
  urgently needed.
