	 mail was informative and contained everything I'd want to know
	 save one thing:  where do I get dig?

It's /pub/dig.2.0.tar.Z on venera.isi.edu.  While you're there, pick up
doc.2.0.tar.Z, the Domain Obscenity Checker.  It does some consistency
checks.

I personally find dig to be far superior to nslookup.  If nothing
else, I can predict what it's going to do, and what server it will
ask.  And I like its command-line interface much better; it's more
UNIX-like, even if the details of the arguments aren't, and even
if its output is generally too verbose.
