ppp and firewall

Our company has finally decided to connect to Internet via ppp.
We have chosen Netcom as the network provider.  I would like to
use a dual homed gateway  as a firewall machine.  Is this scheme
possible with ppp? 
We also would like to provide ftp and telnet services to our
users and need to know what software packages are available
(both commercial and public domain).
