I heard the story too, on a Sunday TV morning show on the NYC NBC
affiliate. I was surprised that NBC was admitting it on the air. They
said that the intruder(s) had broken into GE and NBC's internal network
via the Internet and was apparently very interested in perusing NBC's
internal information (Hmmmm....a corporate spy paid by ABC, CBS or FOX
trying to steal next season's prime time schedule?).
They said that it was the largest security incident ever admitted by a
major corporation (that publicity about most such incidents are supressed).
I'd presume that GE and NBC had an Internet firewall (and probably internal
corporate firewalls as well). Don't know what happened there though.
