Just new to this list, I have just gone through the experience of hiring a
consultant. All of the previous advice is wonderful. The only piece of
advice which I would add is this: take the time to find a consultant you
are truly comfortable with. I had a lot of pressure (from the top) to find
someone quickly. However, with the support of my boss, I was able to take
enough time to find a decent consultant. The time I invested in the search
paid off in the end.
