The WU-Archive FTP server (presumably available from wu-archive.wustl.edu)
makes me a little nervous. ftpd was a big, complex program to start with,
and they've made it a lot bigger and more complex in order to support all
sorts of bells and whistles. I'd sugggest you look carefully at its
feature list to determine which of its unique features you really need, and
which would merely be nice to have.
A good alternative to the WU-Archive ftpd is the ftpd in the TIS Firewalls
Toolkit (available for anonymous FTP from ftp.tis.com), which is what I use
for the server on ftp.greatcircle.com.
