Actually, one of the speakers in a meeting I attended last week--regarding
the new Net infrastructure--stated that it was AOL which bought ANS from
the NFS, as well as its backbone.
As far as I'm concerned though, the mere thought of AOL or Compu$erve in
charge of ANS makes me shudder...
