The topic of 'feeping creaturism' on Cisco routers is getting old.
I believe that all such 'creatures' on Cisco routers can be turned off.
Even IP routing, if that is the security problem!

Given- some features are bad for secure gateways.
Don't use them.  Learn your tools and configure it well.
Who cares if IOS11.4 has Doom ][ in NVRAM!  Just run the 
command

    no doom
