	 that certain services could run thru the firewall, how would this
	 compromise security?

Yes.

Let me be a bit more precise, if less helpful.  It depends.  There's
no one answer; it all depends on which ports, which services, whether
or not you can trust them, and whether or not you have to open other
holes as well to let those services run.
