Peter-
I support the idea of a complementary newsgroup. Perhaps even a
moderated one. I believe a moderated newsgroup could be as high
quality as we are used to with Brent's list--at least we could
have a charter that forbids `scribe and unscribe (sic) messages, and that
has guidelines on commercial posts.

I understand not everyone on the Firewalls reads news. Not everyone
subscribes to mailing lists, either, for equally valid reasons (lack of
good tools, lack of knowledge, dislike of the scribe/unscribe storms).

I have been reading RISKS for about 7 or 8 years now. PGN's work
in moderating that List inspires me to believe we could have equally
good quality discussion on the topic of firewalls. I know, it's not
like I am asking for much...

In order to put my money where my mouth is, I am willing to co-moderate
the newsgroup with someone. I volunteer my time without full knowledge
of the how's of newsgroup moderation.

Quentin
