form of unix. the original question was whether you can scan a
network to determine if a machine is promiscuous mode. this task
is far more difficult (impossible?) than simply checking to see if
the machine you are logged into is running in promiscuous mode.
i remember reading once that there was a way to trick a promiscuous
mode machine into responding to packet not destined to it, but i
cant remember the details offhand, and this probably only worked
for certain stacks.
