	ofcourse, these solutions assume access to the machine that
	is in promiscuous mode, and also that the machine is running some
	form of unix. the original question was whether you can scan a
	network to determine if a machine is promiscuous mode. this task
	is far more difficult (impossible?) than simply checking to see if
	the machine you are logged into is running in promiscuous mode.

	i remember reading once that there was a way to trick a promiscuous
	mode machine into responding to packet not destined to it, but i
	cant remember the details offhand, and this probably only worked
	for certain stacks.
