As an aside, firewall technologies will not have to accomodate any radical
evolution; the ADSL/VDSL technologies are simply alternative high-speed
methods of delivering bits to your desktop.

ps. There are several firms already looking into using cable/coaxial
infrastructure to deliver Internet connectivity, most notably @Home
