Just a couple of observations. There is a lot of concern here about
Netscape 2.0 and Java being able to break into a system or cause havoc.
I have been installing Netscape 2.0x at work for sometime now. We use
pc's running Windows or Windows for Workgroups. We have been installing
Netscape in the 16 bit mode not the 32 bit mode. Our pc's are
supposed to be "SAFE" from any JAVA attack because Java only runs in
32bit mode. This means it is disabled in the 16 bit versions. The
readme file that comes with 2.0/2.01 states that you can't install the
32 bit version on WFW or Windows even if you have the 32 bit extensions
installed. Since I work for a company that supports over 80,000 pc's it
turns out to be a plus to only be able to run Netscape in a 16 bit
mode. Sure I give up processing speed but I gain a heck of alot more in
security, and when the bottleneck is the pipe, I haven't lost much in
speed. It's just the 95 and NT pc's that I have to worry about. But
wait they can run the 16 bit mode also. Now all I have to worry about
is Javascriptting, but 2.01 can disable that.
Also I hear something howling at the moon, and scatching at the
door. It must be a sick puppy that needs to be let in.
Viewpoints are my own and not my employers.
