I have done the same. Set up host with the (in my case) APC SmartChute.
(Here is the paranoid stuff) Then get it to 'ssh' to the other hosts
in the event of power failure to securely shut those puppies down.
'ssh' is really clever in the ways of running this event in a 'least
priviledged' manner also allowing you to be sure that this shutdown
command came from a host that was 1024bit authenticated.
I am in total agreement with Scott, find the solution that fits.
