Before i start asking silly questions, I'd like to know the point
of this discussion...

Is it open to general discussion or is it a bit more techinical
than that?

As a start i'm reading the orielly book..

We currently have a global intranet with one internet access
point controlled through a firewall. That's convenient for our UK
offices, but the cost of utilising that access point costs a lot
from Australia. We are on the verge of gaining access to the
internet through a local ISP. We intend on installing a firewall
between us and the ISP.

At the moment I need to look into firewall A vs Firewall B and
packter-filters V gateways etc, and what to allow, disallow...

We are still to decide the homegrown V commercial installation of
the firewall.

I'd prefer homegrown so that i have more control and
understanding of the firewall whilst my current knowledge level
may dictate that a commercial firewall is the solution. (however
i'm not sure what level of knowledge I have in regards to
firewalls)

If anybody has the time to help a newbie, i'd appreciate it.
