Come on, I've been spammed from this list about 4 or 5 times in the last
12 months, so I'd hardly call it the cause of any of my email woes.
Let's be fair and reasonable here, the spammers are attacking lists, any
lists, that get announced anywhere. Even if the list were moderated, it
takes nothing for a spam company to subscribe, spam, get kicked off,
change their domain name (a month or two later) and subscribe, spam
again, etc.... So it costs than $100 every couple of months, cost of
doing business...
So unless your idea of "moderated" means some kind of screening, its not
the answer to the problem. I doubt anyone at GreatCircle wants to sit
around screen people for subscription to the list.
You get spam, send them, and the postmaster of their ISP, a mail message
saying that you think their spamming should not be allowed. As someone
else said, if they get enough messages they'll be cut off.
Complacency is the bain of the Internet, we look far too much to others
to automate our responsibilities...
