DMZ - DeMilitarized Zone

Popularized in one of our favorite police actions, the Korean Conflict, this
is an area where access is strictly controlled and is a buffer between two
hostile forces. Currently used to name that section of "your" network where
the outside world has controlled access. Any host in this section should be
hardened and considered to be continuously corrupted and thus untrusted.

Please see also "Free Fire Zone", an artifact of a more recent police action.

Hello!

I saw this term here several times in connection with
bastion host. What does this acronym mean?
