I just wanted to solicit more responses as to the type/speed of HW
one should throw at a firewall.
Currently, we have a Sun Sparc 10 sitting between us and the Net
running Solstice FW1... We are planning to install a second FW &
it is going to sit between our "Corporate Lan" and our remote divs.
This is necessary because our remote divs are now starting to get
connected with their own link... One, because they are starting to
provide Internet services on their own, (IE Road Runner) and that
(HOLE) cable modem seen... Unfortunately, they are also tying in
their administrative network to that second link, blech. Which can
get back to us!
Second, it's cheaper for them to get a T1 to the net instead of up-
grading their link to us over Frame Relay.
So, we want to shield ourselves from them.
We were thinking of using an Ultra- Sparc 1 Server but I wonder
if that is overkill?
Since it's sitting between us and the divs, it affects them all. The
main apps running through it would be TN3270.
Would a Sparc 20 do the job??? Also, these divisions that use us
to access the net would have to go thru 'several' machines to get
