My name is Hedi Baxter. I am a science teacher and serve on the technology
committee at Hartford Union High School in Hartford, WI.
We are a large school, 1600 students, 200 staff with 400 workstations --
both Mac and PC. We have a T-1 line at our school and internet access at
Currently, we are using hardware called an Instant Internet Box to
re-package incoming data (IP is converted to IPX to foil student hackers)
and to control student access to URL's (inappropriate URL's are entered
into flash RAM and restricted from future access). This box is time
efficient for our network administrator and working well; however, it is
not compatable with Macs.
The IPX used by the instant internet box cannot be used by Macs; this has
been confirmed. We are looking for a replacement for the Instant Internet
box because we need to be able to access the Web with our Macs. Without
the ability to access the internet on our Macs, we are waisting a
tremendous percentage of our technology resources. We want hardware that
works like the Instant Internet Box, but is compatable with Macs AND PC's.
If you know of any such devise, I would greatly appreciate advice you might
share to help us locate it.
Thank you in advance for your time.
